Ohio Hills Health Services Offering Behavioral Health Program
Posted 06/11/19Ohio Hills Health Services (OHHS) recently launched a Behavioral Health program at the Barnesville Family Health Center and at the Quaker City Family Health Center. OHHS has hired two counselors, Melissa Huff, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, and Penny Shepherd, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, to provide the Behavioral Health Services. Plans are to eventually expand the Behavioral Health Services to the Freeport Family Health Center and the Monroe Family Health Center.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this new service to our patients and the community,” said Jeff Britton, CEO, OHHS. “At OHHS we are committed to treating the whole person and we understand that by patients gaining additional insight into their behaviors they can work to make changes which will prevent illness and promote health.”
OHHS is dedicated to providing integrative health care which emphasizes treating the entire person. Studies estimate that for every 10 people who visit a physician, seven are there seeking care for reasons related to behavioral health, such as depression, anxiety, diabetes management, weight loss, smoking cessation, drinking or drug use problems. Behaviors such as eating habits, drinking or exercise can impact an individual’s physical or mental health. Behavioral health addresses the connection between behaviors and the health and well-being of the body, mind and spirit.
“I am excited to be actively involved in launching this new service at OHHS,” said Melissa Huff. “The goal of behavioral health is to help people make those changes which can enhance wellness in all parts of their lives.”
Regardless of the reason for the office visit, doctors can assume that many patients will have both physical and behavioral health issues. For example, people with diabetes or cardiac conditions can often develop depression. Being able to receive treatment for both conditions through an integrated behavioral health and primary care setting can be especially helpful for patients and assist them to live a healthier life.
“I am honored to be a part of OHHS Behavioral Health program,” said Penny Shepherd. “Change is a constant in our daily lives and can influence the way we think and feel. Having someone to talk with in a safe, professional atmosphere can be the first step in overall wellness. The Behavioral Health office is located in the same building as other clinical services and this can reduce the stigma for those seeking mental health services.”
OHHS’s new Behavioral Health Program accepts most insurances including Medicare and Medicaid and also offers a sliding scale fee for those who are low income. To schedule an appointment or for more information call OHHS at 740-239-6447.
