Hamilton Becomes Certified Professional Coder

Posted 10/14/19

Congratulations to Ohio Hills Health Services (OHHS) employee, Michelle Hamilton for becoming a Certified Professional Coder (CPC). CPC certification is the gold standard for medical coding for physician and non-physician practitioner services.

Passing the CPC test demonstrates Michelle has expertise in reviewing and assigning accurate medical codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services performed by physicians and other qualified healthcare providers and that she has sound knowledge of medical coding guidelines and regulations including compliance and reimbursement.

“I want to congratulate Michelle on her accomplishment of becoming a Certified Professional Coder,” said Dee Stewart, Director of Revenue Cycle Management. “Michelle had wanted to become a Certified Professional Coder and through her perseverance she has accomplished her goal.  Her knowledge of coding will be a great asset to Ohio Hills Health Services.”

The CPC certification is a rigorous program that includes knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology necessary to correctly code provider diagnosis and services. Applicants must also demonstrate a proficiency across a wide range of services, including emergency medicine, anesthesia, surgery, radiology, pathology, and medicine.

“I was interested in becoming a certified coder for some time and was pleased when I had the opportunity to complete an online course through AAPC,” said Michelle Hamilton. “I started the class in November 2018, and I completed it this spring. I spent a lot of time this summer studying, and I took the test in September and was thrilled to learn that I passed.”

“Michelle passed her exam to become a professional coder on the first try and that is quite an accomplishment,” said Jeff Britton, OHHS, CEO. “Billing is an important component of health care and having a CPC on staff assists us to correctly provide diagnosis and services which leads to accurate billing and appropriate reimbursement.”

Michelle is based at the Monroe Family Health Center but handles billing for all four sites- Barnesville Family Health Center, Freeport Family Health Center, Monroe Family Health Center and Quaker City Family Health Center. For additional information regarding OHHS please call 740-239-OHHS.
